Wind farm in Vendée: work scheduled to start

The French Government has just given its approval to start work on the offshore wind farm off the islands of Yeu and Noirmoutier in Vendée. The wind farm is expected to be operational in 2021.

Key figures:

• 62 wind turbines located 11.7 km from Ile d’Yeu and 16.5 km from Noirmoutier.
• With a total capacity of 496 MW, the wind farm should produce an average of 1,900 GWh per year, i.e. the annual electricity consumption of 790,000 people (more than the entire population of Vendée!).
