Atlantic France is strengthening its position as a hub of innovation in the healthcare sector. The region is joining the French Care initiative and launching an incubator dedicated to eHealth known as Gina.
French Care is a national initiative launched in 2022 that aims to foster collaboration between startups, large companies, and public entities. The goal is to generate joint solutions and enhance innovation to improve the healthcare sector.
It brings together stakeholders from a diverse range of sectors, including biotechnology, eHealth, animal health, and pharmaceuticals, creating opportunities for cross-disciplinary collaboration.
The initiative is modelled after movements such as the French Tech in the digital industry and the French Fab in the manufacturing sector.
French Care’s strategic vision in Atlantic France
The French Care movement in Atlantic France will be launched in September. The aim is to create a cross-sectoral ecosystem that allows businesses to thrive.
- Digital health: the Atlantic France French Care network will incorporate digital health companies such as Doctolib (see below) and Hera-Mi, which are instrumental in developing new solutions.
- Animal health and medical devices: the initiative will also involve companies specialising in animal health (Intervet-MSD Santé Animale), medical devices (Medline Assembly France), healthcare services (Eurofins), etc.
- Regional integration: the initiative is further strengthened by collaboration with hospitals, research centres, and public organisations like Solutions&co, which helps expand its impact across the region.
The Atlantic France regional council and its economic development agency, Solutions&co, play a pivotal role in advancing FrenchCare’s objectives, thereby coordinating efforts to promote the sector’s growth. In June 2022, the sector in Atlantic France represented more than 8,200 jobs and nearly 220 companies. If your business is in the healthcare field, Atlantic France is the perfect place to open a new subsidiary or relocate your activities.
Gina: a new centre for health innovation
The new Gina incubator, located on the Île de Nantes, provides a dedicated space for the development of startups and eHealth projects. It is designed to offer shared common spaces and encourage collaboration among players.
Gina is part of “Station S”, a health innovation campus that will ultimately accommodate 1,000 professionals within the health sector.
- A space for innovative businesses: Gina provides health companies with a favourable environment to exchange ideas and develop projects.
- Sustainability and well-being: its design incorporates eco-friendly materials, supporting sustainability and worker well-being.
- Regional commitment: the structure aligns with the Greater Nantes and the Atlantic France regional council policies and their commitment to innovation and sustainable urban development.
On the ground floor, the building will accommodate a restaurant of approximately 260 sqm with an extra 390 sqm available for other businesses. On the floors above, 4,770 sqm of office space will be available, including 1,500 sqm dedicated to healthcare professionals and offered at affordable prices.

VivaTech: a window to innovation
From the 22nd to the 25th of May, we will be participating in VivaTech, in Paris. This global innovation event provides a platform for local companies to connect with international experts, which we anticipate will have a very positive impact on the sector’s development.
The event serves to showcase Atlantic France’s innovative businesses, including the digital health ecosystem, and will be the perfect occasion to present the business opportunities that our region has to offer in this field.
If you are part of the healthcare sector, contact us to set up an appointment with one of our advisors in VivaTech to discuss how we can help you get started with your project.
