With a focus on creating synergies, their 2024 missions across the globe have made a tangible impact. Here’s an overview of their work.
Five key international missions
This year, our expert team has represented Atlantic France in several countries, fostering connections and driving new opportunities. Here are the five most significant international trips of the year:
1. Scotland 🏴
In March, a mission focused on offshore renewable energy and maritime industries took place. Organised by the Atlantic France regional council International Attractivity Department, our business advisor Agathe Corre participated in this initiative. The aim was to engage with Scottish prospects and encourage collaboration between Atlantic France and Scottish players to facilitate potential synergies.
The delegation followed an interesting schedule that included several highlights:
- Visits to notable sites and meetings with key players in the marine renewable energy sector, including:
- The Ports of Aberdeen and Montrose, featuring infrastructure and vessels adapted to offshore wind energy
- The Kincardine floating wind farm, where the delegation met with the developer, Flotation Energy
- An evening of networking between companies from Atlantic France and Scotland
- A visit to the Balmoral company
- A mission in partnership with Scottish Development International
- Meetings with prospective partners in Edinburgh
2. Canada – Province of Quebec 🇨🇦
In May, Benoît Delaplace flew to the Province of Quebec, in Canada on a multi-city mission to connect with companies currently setting up in Atlantic France, explore potential partnerships, and strengthen ties with local partners.
During one of the three days he spent there, Delaplace joined a delegation from Nantes and had the opportunity to meet players from a wide range of sectors such as AgTech, plastics recycling, boating, composites, maritime industries, and robotics. Meetings with companies were organised in Greater Montreal and in Sherbrooke, and he also explored the energy ecosystem in the Vallée de la Transition Énergétique (Energy Transition Valley) between Shawinigan, Trois Rivières and Bécancour.
Ten targeted meetings were held, leading to ongoing projects and partnerships. This mission has already produced results, with one company opening a subsidiary in Atlantic France, two setting up a demonstrator with regional partners, and two others planning to work with research centres or technical centres in the region.
3. Germany 🇩🇪
In October, during the Hydrogen Technology Expo in Hamburg, Nathalie Garry and our H2 expert Etienne Castanet travelled to Germany to showcase Atlantic France’s hydrogen ecosystem.
The objectives of the mission were to identify and engage key international companies specialised in hydrogen components, fuel cells, and tanks, while also strengthening ties with local partners. Over 20 impactful meetings were held with international stakeholders, many of whom were German.
The main stages of the mission:
- Connecting with the H2 ecosystems of Hamburg and Bremen through networking sessions at their booths
- Attending the Bpifrance – Germany networking event
- Meeting with the Franco-German Business Club of Hamburg
- Engaging with international companies interested in the French H2 sector to promote the regional ecosystem and present support for establishing operations in Atlantic France.
4. Netherlands 🇳🇱
In November, the CCI – French Chamber of Commerce in the Netherlands organised an event for its 45th anniversary. Our advisor, Adrien Huchet, used this opportunity to meet economic development players in the Netherlands, focusing especially on partnerships with players in wind energy and aeronautics. Highlights of the mission include:
- A joint meeting with the economic development agency RVO, the wind energy cluster HHWE and NBSO Nantes
- A meeting with the NAG aeronautics cluster
- A meeting with the CCI – French Chamber of Commerce in the Netherlands
- Networking during the anniversary event with BOM Foreign Investments, SIA Partners, and Oppy International (a Nantes-based company expanding in the Netherlands)
5. South Korea & Japan 🇰🇷 🇯🇵
Also in November, Madoka Hebert (Project Advisor) and Virginie Cassaigne (Head of international Department) went to Seoul (South Korea) and then Japan. They conducted 16 meetings with companies deploying cutting-edge technologies in targeted sectors such as industrial decarbonisation, renewable energy, and advanced manufacturing.
The aim was twofold: to engage with companies that had been identified as having plans to set up in Atlantic France, and to raise the profile of our region among new prospects, strengthening ties between Asian companies and Atlantic France.
