Atlantic France sporting events attract more than 2.3 million spectators each year. Some of these events have worldwide reputations and strong business backgrounds.

In recent years, Atlantic France has emerged as the most sporty region in France. A study conducted by the national statistics institute Insee in April reveals that there were 154 sports club licences per 1000 inhabitants in 2022, significantly exceeding the national average of 130.

Atlantic France has established itself as an ideal destination for sports enthusiasts, offering a wide range of activities, especially with its proximity to the sea. The region also stands out for organising sporting events that attract participants and spectators from all over the world. 

24 Hours of Le Mans: endurance of drivers and vehicles

The most important sporting event in Atlantic France is the 24 Hours of Le Mans, an endurance motor race. This competition is a test of the durability and speed of drivers and vehicles, attracting the best teams and drivers in the world of motorsport. Created in 1923, the race is the oldest active endurance racing event in the world. It has recently been the featured in a Hollywood film starring Christian Bale and Matt Damon.

The event is the perfect occasion for casual business meetings and it also offers VIP services. The Automobile Club de l’Ouest, the association organising the event, has also created an innovation hub for smart mobility and leads projects such as MissionH24, which is dedicated to the development of hydrogen vehicles.

Vendée Globe: sailing skills in extreme conditions 

The Vendée Globe is a single-handed, non-stop, non-assisted sailing competition that circumnavigates the globe  from Les Sables d’Olonne, in Vendée. Held every four years, the competition tests the endurance and sailing skills of the competitors, as well as their ability to sail in the most extreme conditions. 

The event is committed to raising public awareness of ocean conservation and plays an important part in the sailing R&D. Special packages are available for businesses.

Jumping de La Baule: top-level horse riding
