Vehicles and mobility: the 24 Hours of Le Mans race to celebrate its 100^th anniversary

The world’s biggest endurance car race, the 24 Hours of Le Mans, will take place on the 10^th and 11^th of June 2023. This year, the legendary competition will celebrate its 100^th anniversary. The race plays a major role in the Atlantic France region’s industrial ecosystem and it boosts innovation, particularly in the field of sustainable mobility. 

The 24 Hours of Le Mans race is a technological challenge for car manufacturers and an unmissable spectacle for spectators. Created in 1923, this competition is one of the most prestigious car races in the world, along with the Monaco Grand Prix and the Indianapolis 500.

The race of the century

This year, the 24 Hours of Le Mans will celebrate its 100^th anniversary. For this occasion, Ferrari and Porsche will make their comeback and will come to challenge Toyota, the title holder and winner of the last five editions. 

For this special edition, the Automobile Club de l’Ouest, creator and organiser of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, has decided to collaborate with the Monnaie de Paris to create a unique Trophy, which will be awarded to the winner of the 2023 Le Mans 24 Hours.

Focus on sustainable mobility and hydrogen vehicles 

Le Mans endurance race is also the perfect time to showcase the latest technological advances in motorsport. Launched in September 2018, the MissionH24 project, which was created by the Automobile Club de l’Ouest and a technology partner, GreenGT, is aiming to create a category reserved for electric-hydrogen propulsion prototypes at the Le Mans 24 Hours by 2025. 

Driven by the success and fame of the race, Le Mans has over time become a hotspot for the automotive industry and the biggest players in the sector have opened workshops there, such as Gruau, Renault, GKN, Class, or even Porsche, which founded its Porsche Center Experience in 2015. It has also become the home of various innovative companies which are specialised in sustainable mobility.
