The lab of digital sciences of Nantes (LS2N) is part of the major research programme TIRREX which has been selected during a national call for expression of interest. The project plans that the University of Nantes will benefit from a €850,000 support fund to develop an innovative industrial research platform dedicated to XXL robotics.
Led by the CNRS (French National Centre for Scientific Research), the project TIRREX stands for Technological Infrastructure for Robotics Research of Excellence. The objective is to develop high-tech robotics platforms coordinated at the national level.
TIRREX, a cutting-edge collaborative research project
Continuation of the ROBOTEX project, TIRREX involves all the major players in French academic research in robotics (CNRS, INRIA, CEA, INRAE) alongside 19 partners. It also relies on the support of more than fifty companies (Airbus, Bouygues, Eiffage, PSA, Renault, Safran, Thales, etc.) and business clusters.
Selected as structuring equipment for research
The programme has been selected during the call for expression of interest ESR / EquipEx+ launched by the French government in order to support initiatives which will be “structuring equipment for research”. A support fund of €13,8 million was requested while the overall project budget amounts to €41,6 million.
An innovative center dedicated to robotics in Atlantic France
As part of this project, the LS2N and the University of Nantes should be granted a budget of €850,000 over 8 years in order to implement an industrial research platform in a 1,000 sqm plant in Saint-Aignan-de-Grand-Lieu, near Nantes. It will be dedicated to “XXL robotics”, with the conception of gigantic industrial machines, but also to boost the use of robotics in the field of construction.
