Chantiers de l’Atlantique has received confirmation of an order for an offshore electrical substation for the Fécamp wind farm in Normandy. The company from Atlantic France is currently building the substation for the Saint-Nazaire offshore wind farm and expects several other contracts in France and abroad.
An electrical substation is at the base of an offshore wind farm and collects the energy produced. Chantiers de l’Atlantique has become a specialist in the construction of this gigantic and heavy-duty component.
The company from Atlantic France recently received the confirmation for a new order. The “S34” substation will be built in the marine renewable factory Anemos, in Saint-Nazaire, and installed on an offshore wind farm in Fécamp, Normandy.
A massive industrial project in marine renewables
Based on a jacket foundation, the electrical substation will host 71 turbines and 480 MW of cumulated power. The production of the Fécamp offshore wind farm will represent the equivalent of the domestic electricity consumption of more than 770,000 people. The construction of the substation will require 400,000 hours of work and should be finished in 2021.
Chantiers de l’Atlantique is currently building the substation for the Saint-Nazaire offshore wind farm and should also be in charge of the construction of the substation for the offshore wind farm located in Courseulles-sur-mer (Normandy).
National flagship and international opportunities
With the construction of the substations for the three first French offshore wind farms, the Anemos factory will be busy until 2024. Three other substations have been built for offshore wind farms in Belgium, Germany and the UK, and several commercial opportunities are underway.
